*Written from the middle*
---
Business writing has a missing middle. At one end there is the startup literature, largely concerned with a founder getting a grip before the thing runs away from them. At the other there is the Harvard Business Review and its like, readable enough, but when they talk about big companies they mean the really big ones - and most is written either by academics, or by firms that sell consulting services, which builds in a bias towards making things sound complicated.
Very little of it fits the mid-market: businesses with big-company problems and small-company resources. These companies punch above their weight - less than one per cent of all businesses but employing about a quarter of the workforce and an equivalent share of output.
It shouldn't be so hard to find practical advice for running these businesses, without it being trapped inside private equity playbooks or expensive peer networks. This site shares some of mine.
